ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬¸ßÇ帣Àû to open up meeting to the public on religious symbols issue
An emergency meeting of the ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬¸ßÇ帣Àû’s Human Resources Committee will be held on Wednesday, February 6 at 6000 Fielding Avenue in NDG, with a portion open to the public at 7:15 pm to seek their input on the provincial government’s proposed law prohibiting civil servants — including teachers, judges, police officers and prosecutors— from wearing religious symbols in the workplace.
Commissioner Julien Feldman, the chair of the ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬¸ßÇ帣Àû Human Resources Committee, said that he is inviting anyone who would like to share their thoughts on this subject to do so during this meeting.
The ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬¸ßÇ帣Àû Council of Commissioners strongly opposed the former Parti québécois’ proposed Charter of Values, adopting a resolution that it had no intention to comply with the law.
Mr. Feldman said that this feedback will provide important information for an ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬¸ßÇ帣Àû action plan on the proposed legislation.
